Keynote
Speaker
Sorrel
King founded the Josie King Foundation in 2001 with her husband
Tony after their daughter Josie died as a result of medical errors.
The Josie King Foundation supports innovative patient safety programs
that influence the way safety is incorporated into medical care.
The Josie King Pediatric Patient Safety Program and the Johns Hopkins
Hospital's Children's Center, the Condition H - Josie King Patient
Safety Call Line at UPMC - Shadyside Hospital, and Dr. Albert Wu's
work on disclosure training all received initial funding from the
Josie King Foundation and currently serve as models for patient
safety programs across the country.
Sorrel
is a leading advocate for improving patient safety. As a public
speaker, she brings Josie's powerful story and the successes of
Foundation-sponsored safety initiatives to wide audiences to ensure
that what happened to Josie will never happen to another patient.
The Josie King Foundations mission is to prevent others from
dying or being harmed by medical errors. By uniting healthcare providers
and consumers, and funding innovative safety programs, we hope to
create a culture of patient safety, together.

Clinical
Pearls
There
will be two Clinical Pearl Session at the Annual meeting this year.
The clinical pearls will address the Top 5 published articles in
the areas of Infectious Diseases and Neontalogy.
New
Practitioners Luncheon
Continuing
a new tradition at PPAG, a lunch seminar will be provided for interested
residents, fellows, and new practitioners (out of residency 2-3
years). This year a panel will discuss leadership and how to seek
a mentor for your career. This lunch is free to attend, but you
MUST sign-up in advance to attend. You will be able to sign-up during
the registration process. Seating is limited.
Poster
Presentation Information
There
will be two concurrent poster sessions: Scientific-based Poster
Session and Practice-based Poster Session.
Scientific
Poster Session
Research
abstracts presented at PPAG report the results of a scientific investigation
or a clinical observation (case report) involving some aspect of
pharmacotherapy. Scientific investigations can be either clinical,
basic, or translational and are either hypothesis-driven or descriptive
in nature. To be accepted for presentation, research abstracts must
have either preliminary or final results. The abstract may be submitted
in any of the following categories: Scientific, Case Report, and
Encore Presentations (a poster that has been presented and published
elsewhere. The original citation must accompany encore presentations).
From
these posters, the Research Committee will choose two awards; the
Best Original Paper, and the Young Investigator Award.
Practice
Poster Session
Best
and Innovative Pediatric Pharmacy Practice Abstracts typically describe
programs, systems, or projects that are innovative, creative, cost-effective,
and improve practice in pediatric pharmacy. BPA/IPPP Posters will
be selected based on achievement of excellence in each of the four
areas.
From
these abstracts, the Advocacy Committee will reward two Best Practice
Awards. The Awardees will present their work at the Annual Meeting.
Silent
Auction Challenge
PPAG
would like to challenge it members to pull together and donate to
the silent auction a themed basket or box. Get together with others
in your institution or region to put together a basket of items
that are unique to your city/state/region to share a "taste"
of your home. If you would prefer, choose another theme such as
a coffee basket, chocolate basket or children's book basket. It
does not have to be big or tall or even in a basket. There will
be awards given for the most creative as well as the basket which
goes for the highest bid! Start thinking and get creative! If you
would like to submit a basket for the silent auction, please e-mail
Julie Clyce at Julie.clyce@ppag.org
and notify her of your theme.
