Influenza Update for 2010

In past years, it was recommended that children in certain age groups and with certain medical conditions receive the influenza vaccine. For the 2009-2010 influenza season, however, the ACIP recommends that ALL children, aged 6 months – 18 years, receive the vaccine. The ACIP does note that, although all children should receive the vaccine, certain groups at high-risk for influenza complications should be targeted.

Updated 2009 Red Book/American Academy of Pediatrics Recommendations for Palivizumab Administration

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has recently modified its recommendations for use of palivizumab (Synagis) for prevention of RSV infection. The updated AAP recommendations are based on review of the most recent data. They seek to optimize the balance between identifying infants mostly likely to derive benefit and minimizing the cost of palivizumab therapy.
