Joni Beck, PharmD, BC-ADM, CDE
Endocrinology Section Lead/Speaker
Dr. Beck is a Professor and the Clinical Programs Director of Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology at College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma. She also holds an adjunct Professor appointment at the University of Oklahoma, College of Pharmacy. Dr. Beck received her bachelor’s and doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota prior to completing an Accredited Specialty Practice Residency in Primary Care Pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She is Board-Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management and a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®). Professional and research activities have focused on working with multidisciplinary groups to create effective programs, care and education for diabetes and endocrine management. In addition to direct patient care in the hospital and clinical care environments, professional teaching efforts have been directed towards medical, pharmacy and nursing trainees at all levels. Joni has served on numerous local and national diabetes-related committees including the American Diabetes Association, Board of Directors for National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators and Harold Hamm Diabetes Center Camp Blue Hawk . She has been an American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Program Auditor since 2006.

Mike Chicella is the Clinical Manager for the Department of Pharmacy, and the pediatric intensive care unit pharmacist at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in beautiful Norfolk, Virginia. Mike has been a pharmacist practicing in pediatrics since 1991. He has been at CHKD since 2003. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Mike is extensively involved in the education of both students and residents during their rotations at CHKD.

Dr. Cole serves as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Cedarville University's School of Pharmacy. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Cole served as Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he was responsible for oversight and strategic development of clinical and investigational drug services within the health system. He has also served as Pharmacy Educator and provided clinical pharmacy services for Pediatric Neurosciences and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Clinic, among other pediatric patient populations. Dr. Cole was instrumental in developing the pharmacy department's drug information platform, expanding pediatric clinical pharmacy services, and enhancing clinical decision support with the electronic heath record at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr. Cole has been a preceptor for introductory and advanced pharmacy practice students as well as numerous pharmacy residents, and was selected as Residency Preceptor of the Year at Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2013 and as Preceptor of Distinction for Cedarville University in 2016. He has served as a presenter at a number of state and national meetings and lecturer at the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Cole is also active in free medical clinics in Columbus, Ohio, serving as Pharmacy Lead for Grace Clinics of Ohio's Hardin Clinic.

Dr. Michelle Condren is a Professor and Department Chair at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy, Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences in Tulsa. She earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Oklahoma and completed a pediatric specialty residency at Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Condren is a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator and Certified Asthma Educator and has specialized in medication therapy management and improving outcomes in pediatric chronic illness for 18 years. Her clinical practice is in ambulatory pediatrics, specifically medication safety, cystic fibrosis, and asthma.
Joshua Elder, PharmD, BCPS, BCOP

Josh Elder completed his PharmD training at the University of Kentucky and went on to complete 2 years of residency training at Indiana University Health, specializing in Pediatrics. He serves as the Clinical Specialist for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, KY. He currently serves as the Director for the PGY1 pharmacy residency program as well as the PGY2 Oncology pharmacy residency program.

Peter Gal is currently Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at High Point University School of Pharmacy where he is responsible for curriculim development and assessment. He started NICU practice at Georgia Baptist Hospital as faculty for Mercer University in 1977. Dr. Gal worked at Greensboro AHEC and Cone Health in NICU from 1980 until 2014. where he created a NICU pharmacotherapy fellowship in 1992 to 2014. Dr. Gal also ran an Asthma referral clinic for 30 years at health departments in Greensboro and Rockingham County.

Brooke L. Gildon is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Gildon began working with SWOSU College of Pharmacy in December 2015. She practices at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethany, OK. Prior to working at SWOSU, Dr. Gildon was on faculty at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy and Medicine in Tulsa, OK. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency and PGY2 in Pediatrics with the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy in Oklahoma City. In addition, Dr. Gildon is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Certified Asthma Educator. Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, to name a few. Her practice areas are pediatric ambulatory care, pediatric complex care, general pediatrics, and pediatric asthma and her research interests include pediatric pharmacotherapy and patient safety.
Heather Girand, PharmD, BCPPS
Heather Girand is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Ferris State University College of Pharmacy with a clinical practice site in general pediatrics at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. Dr. Girand received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Michigan in 1995. She completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency at Children’s Hospital in Detroit, MI in 1996 and a pediatric pharmacy specialty residency at the University of Michigan in 1997. Her areas of interest include infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, cystic fibrosis, and immunizations. Dr. Girand has been a member of PPAG since 1996 and has served on the Research Committee since 2003, which she co-chaired from 2006-2009. She served on the Board of Directors from 2009-2012 and has presented at various annual meetings since 2005.

Dr. Girotto graduated with her bachelor in pharmacy studies in 2000 followed by and her doctor of pharmacy in 2002. She then went on to completing a specialty residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital Boston. After completing her residency she has been at the University of Connecticut / Connecticut Children's Medical Center for the past 13 years. She is currently the Co-Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Connecticut Children's Medical Center and holds appointments at UCONN as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology.

Lizbeth received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin in 2006. She then completed both a PGY1 and a PGY2 in pediatrics residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Lizbeth is currently a clinical pharmacist in the pediatric intensive care unit at the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

Tara Higgins, PharmD, is a clinical specialist in pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital. In addition, Dr. Higgins serves as clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Dr. Higgins received her Pharm.D. from the University of Rhode Island. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at the University of Kentucky HealthCare. Dr. Higgins is currently serving as chair for FSHP educational affairs council, co-chair for Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG) fall specialty meeting, Heme/Onc section lead for PPAG BCPPS board prep, member of PPAG BCPPS recertification committee, and faculty advisor for the PPAG student group at the University of Florida (PediaGators).
Mary Jayne Kennedy, PharmD
Pharmacogenomics Section Lead/Speaker
Dr. Kennedy is a pediatric clinical pharmacologist who served on the faculty at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the Virginia Commonwealth School of Pharmacy before joining the High Point University School of Pharmacy in June 2015 as the Founding Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Dr. Kennedy has an active research program focusing on understanding the mechanisms responsible for drug-induced renal injury in newborn in infants and identifying genomic and proteomic biomarkers to predict and prevent nephrotoxicity in this patient population. In addition, Dr. Kennedy has served as the principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple NIH grants, private foundation awards and industry contracts and she has published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. She has also led and served on numerous grant review committees for the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration and is a member of several editorial boards for scientific journals in the areas of pediatric clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenomics.
Kristin Klein, PharmD, FPPAG

Kristin Klein is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan (UM) College of Pharmacy, and is the pediatric infectious diseases clinical pharmacist specialist at the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS). Dr. Klein received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Oklahoma. She then completed a specialty residency in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Following her residency, Dr. Klein joined the faculty of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she practiced in a neonatal intensive care unit until she joined the faculty at UM. Dr. Klein’s research interests include antimicrobial stewardship in pediatric patients, and the scholarship of teaching. Dr. Klein is an active member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG), where she served as co-chair of the Advocacy Committee from 2009 to 2014, and section editor for a pharmacotherapy textbook for advanced pediatric pharmacy practitioners. She is currently on the Board of Directors for PPAG, and is the Immediate Past Chair of the Pediatric SIG of AACP. Dr. Klein has also served as an invited reviewer for professional journals, including Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning. Dr. Klein was inducted as a fellow of PPAG in 2012. She received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 2015 and a Professional Practice Award from the Michigan Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists in 2015.
Chad Knoderer, PharmD, FPPAG (Co-Chair, Review and Recertification Course)

Chad Knoderer is currently Associate Professor and Director for Clinical and Health Outcomes Research of Pharmacy Practice at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He graduated with his PharmD from Butler University in 1999. After graduating he completed 2 years of residency training specializing in pediatrics. Dr. Knoderer practiced with the pediatric cardiovascular surgery and cardiology sections at Riley Hospital for Children as well as the pediatric infectious diseases and nephrology sections. While there, he was successful in establishing antimicrobial treatment protocols for the pediatric cardiovascular surgery section, limiting surgical prophylaxis duration, and implementing a number of antimicrobial dose optimization strategies. Upon joining the Butler University faculty as a co-funded faculty member, Dr. Knoderer established the Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Riley Hospital for Children and served as program director until moving to his current campus-based faculty role in August 2011. Knoderer currently teaches pediatric pharmacotherapy as well as biostatistics and research design and oversees pharmacy student clinical research. Knoderer continues to collaborate on many research studies ranging from randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials to retrospective cohort studies and survey research focusing primarily on pediatric antimicrobial stewardship-related topics.
Susannah Koontz, PharmD, BCOP, FHOPA

Susannah Koontz is the Principal at Koontz Oncology Consulting LLC, where she serves as a consultant for pharmacy practice, medical education and clinical research in the fields of pediatric hematology, oncology and hematopoietic cell transplantation. She works with healthcare providers and pharmaceutical industry professionals to identify research priorities and rationally apply cancer therapies in children. Dr. Koontz has been an invited speaker at numerous international, national, and local healthcare professional meetings. Her research has been presented at several healthcare organizational conferences and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Koontz currently serves as President-Elect for the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA). She has held faculty appointments at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and the University of Texas (Austin) College of Pharmacy and has trained over two dozen PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy residents. Prior to starting her firm in 2008, Dr. Koontz was the clinical pharmacy specialist for over 10 years at the Children's Cancer Hospital at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Teresa Lewis, PharmD, BCPS

Teresa Lewis, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. She is an adjunct Assistant Professor within the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Nephrology with the OU College of Medicine. Her areas of clinical practice and research involve improving medication management for pediatric end stage kidney disease and pediatric kidney transplant patients.
Jeffrey Low, PharmD, BCPPS

Jeff Low, PharmD, BCPPS is the Clinical Pharmacist Lead for Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD). Dr. Low earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Low’s areas of interest includes medication safety, integration of technology, and quality of care. While at Dartmouth, Dr Low co-founded the PGY-1 residency program and served as the program director. He led the pharmacy department’s Epic electronic medical record implementation team and has designed drug libraries for a variety of different infusion devices. Dr Low co-leads the CHaD adverse drug events HAC as part of the Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety HEN. He also serves as an instructor in pediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School and an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Connecticut. As an active member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group, Dr. Low has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors and is currently serving as Treasurer for the organization.

Pulmonary Section
Dr. Lisa Lubsch is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and clinical pharmacy specialist at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. She provides care to children with cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary problems. Dr. Lubsch received the B.S. and doctorate of pharmacy from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and completed a pediatric specialty residency at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy. She is board certified in pediatric pharmacy and is a leader in the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group.
Sherry Luedtke, PharmD FPPAG
Neonatal Section Lead/Speaker
Dr. Luedtke is one of the founding faculty members of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy and is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Luedtke received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Wisconsin (1994). She completed her practice residency at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin (1994) and pediatric specialty residency at the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital (1995). Dr. Luedtke’s area of practice interest is in neonatology. She has practiced as a clinical specialist providing clinical pharmacy services in neonatology at Northwest Texas Children’s Hospital for over 15 years. Dr. Luedtke has developed neonatal pharmacotherapy educational programs for PPAG, ASHP, and the National Neonatal Nurses Conferences. She has been an invited speaker for national and regional meetings and has authored numerous book chapters and manuscripts on pediatric pharmacotherapy. Her honors recognizing clinical and teaching excellence include: PPAG Fellow Recognition (2011),TTUHSC President’s Distinguished Clinician Award (2005), TTUHSC School of Pharmacy Most Influential Professor Award (2004, 2005), Texas Society for Health Systems Pharmacists Best Practice Award (2003), PPAG Best Practice Award (2002), and Texans Caring for Texans Award (2001, 2003). She is a reviewer for several medical and pharmacy journals and is on the editorial board for two pharmacy journals. Research interests include neonatal pharmacotherapy and education. Dr. Luedtke has been dedicated to the education of future pediatric practitioners having established the Pediatric Specialty Residency at TTUHSC School of Pharmacy in 1999. One of her proudest accomplishments is to have mentored outstanding practitioners who have become young leaders in the area of pediatric pharmacy. Dr. Luedtke has been a committed member to PPAG since 1995. She began her service to PPAG with her work on the Education Committee and subsequently has been involved at all levels including the Advocacy Committee, Board of Directors, and service as a Past President. She currently serves as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Shannon Manzi, PharmD, FPPAG
Public Health and Advocacy Section Lead
Dr. Shannon Manzi has practiced pediatric pharmacy for more than 20 years and pediatric emergency medicine for 15 years. She is currently the Director of the Clinical Pharmacogenomics Service and the Manager for ED and ICU Pharmacy Services at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also an NR-EMT and has served as a pediatric expert for the Strategic National Stockpile, the National Advisory Committee on Children and Terrorism, the CDC and MADPH. In addition, Shannon is the Lead Pharmacist for the Massachusetts–1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team and has deployed eleven times, including responses to major hurricanes, the Haitian earthquake and the Unaccompanied Minor Border Crossing mission. She has been a simulation instructor at BCH for 6 years and runs several unique programs related to disaster and prehospital medicine. She holds clinical adjunct faculty positions at Northeastern University and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences University. Shannon has presented numerous national and international workshops and lectures on pediatric emergency medicine, simulation and disaster related topics.

Dr. Maples is currently an Associate Professor with the Dept. of Pharmacy Practice and the Jeff and Kathy Lewis Sanders College of Pharmacy Endowed Chair in Pediatrics with the UAMS College of Pharmacy. Dr. Maples is a Pharm.D. graduate of Ohio Northern University. She completed her Pediatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at Spectrum Health & DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. She completed a 2 year Pediatric Pharmacology Fellowship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the UAMS College of Pharmacy. She also currently serves as the Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship Fellowship and is the Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Christopher McPherson, PharmD

Christopher McPherson is a clinical pharmacist in the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and completed a fellowship in Neonatal Pharmacotherapy at The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro.
Hanna Phan, PharmD, FPPAG
Dr. Hanna Phan is an Associate Professor and Assistant Department Head in Pharmacy Practice and Science at the College of Pharmacy and in the Department of Pediatrics at the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona (UA). She is also an Associate Research Scientist for the UA Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center and Faculty for the UA Pediatric Pulmonary Center (PPC). Dr. Phan practices as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Banner University Medical Center-Tucson. She developed and practices in a variety of Pediatric Pulmonary Clinics (cystic fibrosis (CF), severe asthma, sleep) as well as the Adult CF clinic. She established the Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at Banner University Medical Center–Tucson, Diamond Children’s in 2009 and served as Residency Program Director through 2015. Dr. Phan earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of Michigan and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at The Ohio State University. Dr. Phan has received state and national recognition for her clinical practice, professional service, and research from organizations such as the Arizona Pharmacy Association, Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Foundation. Her service to PPAG includes President-Elect (2018-2019), President (2019-2020), Immediate Past President (2020-2021), Director-at-Large on the PPAG board (2014-2017), PPAG Research Committee Chair (2013-2014), Co-Chair for the PPAG Recertification Advisory Committee (2014-2018). Dr. Phan has been recognized by PPAG with the Spirit of PPAG Award (2012) for her efforts in creating student chapters and the Presidential Citation Award (2015) for her contributions in developing the PPAG BCPPS Recertification Program. She has given lectures nationally and internationally, and authored various book chapters and peer-reviewed publications in the area of pediatric pharmacotherapy. Her current research interests include patient-caregiver education and medication adherence, medication use in schools, and interprofessional care of children with chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and asthma

Dr. Procaccini is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Anticoagulation services at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He obtained his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2009. Dr. Procaccini became the first pharmacist involved with the cystic fibrosis clinic at West Virginia University Hospitals. These experiences solidified his decision to pursue a PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency, for which he completed at Texas Children’s Hospital with a focus in Pediatric Cardiac & General Intensive Care Medicine and Solid Organ Transplant, and obtained a board certification in Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Procaccini now collaborates with medical teams at The Johns Hopkins Hospital providing direct patient care to critically ill children and those with congenital heart defects and heart transplants. Dr. Procaccini is also a member of the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology Clinical Pharmacology Committee. He is heavily involved with quality improvement and clinical research, specifically in the areas of anticoagulation, congenital heart defects, pulmonary hypertension, and sedation, and is a clinical consultant for drug companies who manufacture pediatric formulations of FDA approved medications. He is currently working on completing his Master’s in Public Health.

Dr. Sawyer is currently a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Cardiology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Sawyer completed a general PGY1 and a Pediatric PGY2 residency at Clarian Health Partners in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2004 and 2005. From 2006-2007, she was clinical faculty at Rutgers University and Hackensack Medical Center.

Dr. Kimberly Tallian received her B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego followed by the completion of her Pharm.D from the University of California, San Francisco. Subsequently, she completed a General Practice Residency in Pharmacy Practice at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Francisco and a Fellowship in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy at the Ohio State University/Children’s Hospital, Columbus. Dr. Tallian currently is the Neuropsychiatric Pharmacist at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego as well as holds appointments as an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of California, San Diego and San Francisco, and KGI School of Pharmacy. She is also a consultant pharmacist at the San Diego Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled to improve the outcomes requiring psychotropic medications.

Dr. Yu is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and University of Kansas Schools of Pharmacy and Clinical Infectious Disease pharmacist and member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Children’s Mercy. She completed her pharmacy degree at University of California-San Francisco School of Pharmacy. After graduation, Dr. Yu completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at University of Kentucky Medical Center followed by a HIV Care/Infectious Diseases Residency at University of Illinois at Chicago. She achieved board certification as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist with added qualifications in Infectious Diseases in 2015. She currently participates routinely in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Children’s Mercy Hospital and is a preceptor for both student pharmacists and pharmacy residents. Her current research interests include the role of antimicrobial stewardship in decreasing antibiotic resistance and clinical outcomes, non-occupational HIV post-exposure prophylaxis, and the role of rapid diagnostics and antimicrobial stewardship.
