Activity Description
This presentation will review current therapies available for outpatient seizure rescue in pediatrics patients. It will then review the process of developing and implementing an institutional policy regarding the use of intravenous midazolam for at-home intranasal use.
Learning Objectives for Pharmacists
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Recommend outpatient seizure rescue therapy for pediatric patients utilizing patient-specific factors.
2. Identify key stakeholders and steps in the development of an institutional policy on the use of intravenous midazolam for at-home intranasal use.
3. Prepare a plain language patient education document on the use of intravenous midazolam for at-home intranasal use.

Presenter
Emily Belarski, PharmD
Dr. Belarski is the clinical pharmacist specialist in general pediatrics at the University of Chicago Medicine's Comer Children's Hospital. She received her PharmD from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at Indiana University Health and her PGY2 pediatric pharmacy residency at IUH Riley Children's Hospital.
