Learning Objectives for Pharmacists
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss PDA pathophysiology and the current evidence supporting treatment of pharmacologically closing hemodynamically significant PDA
2. Compare and contrast current evidence-based literature to support the use of oral and intravenous forms of ibuprofen, indomethacin, and acetaminophen for the treatment of PDA in preterm and term infants
3. Evaluate the use of pharmacologic therapy in prophylaxis of PDA closure
4. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of various pharmacologic therapies used to treat PDA
Accreditation
PPA has accredited this knowledge-based webinar for 1.0 contact hours (0.10 CEUs) of continuing education credit for pharmacists. UAN #:0180-0000-21-006-L01-P
The Pediatric Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. In order to receive credit, participants must register for the program, attend the program, and fill out a post-program survey. Webinar programs are 100% supported through program registration fees and PPA membership dues, and is not supported by Industry.
BCPPS Recertification Credit is also available for participants if you select that pricing option during registration. Participants will be required to complete an evaluation and pass an exam in order to receive their certificate. Once the exam is passed, participants will receive 1 hour BCPPS credit. Valid through December 23, 2021.

Sarah Scarpace Lucas, PharmD, BCPS, BCPPS, FCSHP, FPPA
Sarah Scarpace Lucas Pharm.D. BCPS, BCPPS is a pediatric clinical pharmacist and senior pharmacist supervisor at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital/UCSF Medical Center. Dr. Lucas earned her BS Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed a Pediatric Specialty Residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Dr. Lucas is a Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Pharmacy and teaches didactically along with precepting students, PGY1 and PGY2 residents. Her primary practice interests include Pediatric Intensive Care, Medication Safety and Management.
Sylvia Stoffella, PharmD, BCPPS
Dr. Sylvia Stoffella is a Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Benioff Children’s Hospital and Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor within the UCSF School of Pharmacy and Nursing. Her specialty practices within pediatric pharmacy include cystic fibrosis, solid organ transplant, intensive care nursery and obstetrics. She remains active within her local CSHP chapter, the Golden Gate Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GGSHP), as a delegate and current Past President of her chapter. Also, she is an active member of the advocacy committee for the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA).
Christopher McPherson, PharmD, BCPPS
Christopher McPherson, PharmD, BCPPS graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and completed a fellowship in Neonatal Pharmacotherapy at The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro. He is currently a clinical pharmacist in the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine.
