Pediatric Pharmacy Association
Prior to Spring of 2020, many pharmacy schools were designed to deliver content in person with heavy hands-on interactions. While there are a few institutions that deliver online programs, many faculty had very little experience delivering content 100% virtually. Fortunately, there is research out there as some other medical professionals have been obtaining their education through online methods, most notably there are many online nursing and nurse practitioner programs (1).
When evaluating strategies to recruit and retain pharmacy students, a major theme that is seen, is students desire connection (2). While delivering content is vital, student engagement and connection should also be balanced.
While we realize (and also struggled) there was a short time span to overcome these challenges this past year, the purpose of this program is to help support those who find themselves in the situation where they suddenly are teaching online. We will share our experiences and delve into some research that is also available to us from other medical professionals on what may work.
