New Tools and Concepts for Antibiotic Stewardship

Dr. Elizabeth Farrington, PharmD, BCPS, BCNSP will conduct a 1-hour knowledge-based continuing education webinar program. She will review the new scoring systems or laboratory test that can impact antibiotic selection and treatment regimens.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Review scoring systems developed for evaluating infants < 3 months with fever
2. Understand how using scoring systems in infants with fever decrease the number of cultures obtained and decreases antibiotic use.
3. Discuss the role of the pharmacist in implementing rapid identification programs (Real time PCR microbial/yeast rapid identification systems).
4. Recognize the multidisciplinary planning required in implementing a Rapid identification program.
5. Identify the characteristics required for the Newborn Keiser Sepsis calculator
6. Document the decrease in blood/urine and CSF cultures obtained and antibiotics initiated by implementing the Kaiser sepsis calculator.
